New James Devane Collaboration Project The Absent Coast

As mentioned a few months ago, James Devane, who featured heavily in last year’s podcast episodes, has been working on a new project, En, with Maxwell August Croy. The result is a truly lovely collection of ten soundscapes, which perfectly compliment Devane’s earlier solo work.

En is the duo of San Francisco based multi-instrumentalists Maxwell August Croy and James Devane, and “The Absent Coast” is their debut collection of recordings. The pair utilize a wide range of instrumentation – koto, guitar, vocals, rhodes, melodica, and piano, among other devices – which is processed and refined into rich walls of reverberant bliss . With its hazy atmospherics, microtonal drones and plaintive tones, the album evokes the type of unplaceable nostalgia that accompanies the imaginary landscapes of distant memory. A diverse and carefully considered album, “The Absent Coast” is all soaring peaks, shadowed valleys and expansive plains. Edition of 300 LP’s.

The album is available as a download, or limited edition vinyl, from October 5th 2010.

Vince Watson single emerges on Urban Torque

Amsterdam-based techno producer Vince Watson

Vince Watson, the Amsterdam-based Techno producer, originally from Glasgow, has featured heavily in various episodes of the Sessions Podcast. The track Rendezvous featured on the first episode, way back in 2008, and is without doubt one of my favourite random finds in recent years, a beautifully crafted, melodic techno masterpiece, released through Carl Craig’s Planet E imprint. He has also released music through Everysoul, Delsin, Bio, Fcom, Ibadan & Mule.

His next single, Mystical Rhythm 2010, revisits one of his early singles for UK based Alola and gives it a new lease of life courtesy of some impressive vocals from Naomi Thomson.

The long awaited vocal mix of Mystical Rhythm finally arrives….

Using a Derrick May eulogy… Like Innercity and Blackwater meeting in an elevator…’Mystical Rhythm’ the classic Vince Watson single has been reworked by the man himself, elevating the original with beautiful vocals from Naomi Thomson to give the track an edge that it was looking for in its first incarnation. Being an instant classic across the house and techno genre’s, these new mixes are set to be a smash hit for the summer of 2010.

Naomi Thomson has delivered a tailored and beautiful harmony to fit alongside a reworked, remastered and re-edited original, creating one of the most uplifting tracks of the year.

The single is being released through Urban Torque on 27th September 2010.

Mixtape – Cygn – Melodic Detroit Techno Mix

I’m constantly downloading mixtapes, it’s a great way of finding new music. However, it’s rare that I bother listening to a mix more than once. It struck me yesterday that I’ve listened to this mix loads of times, it’s really great.

It’s so hard finding good quality detroit techno, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this mix totally hits the spot in that department; just under an hour of quality music.
